Organizing for Advocacy in Support of Montessori Education

Session One: A State Montessori Organization.  We’ll discuss the how’s, what’s, and who of starting a state- wide Montessori organization. Ideas on where to begin, what it takes to be a state recognized organization, creating a mission, and an organizational structure that works.

Session Two: Developing a Strong State Montessori Organization.  In session two, we’ll share how to involve your Montessori community state-wide, methods for communicating with your community, and implementing the work of the organization.

Session Three: Organizing for Advocacy.  Your organization has decided that one of your goals is advocacy. Where do you start? We’ll look at the importance of leadership, prioritizing goals, and how to create an action plan with specific roles and responsibilities.

Supporting Students with Challenging Behaviors

Christine Lowry, M.Ed. will lead this dynamic, three-part series for Montessori classroom teachers, administrators and support personnel.  Each session will invite participants to bring their real-life situations and questions to the discussion of a Montessori based, multi-tiered system of support for students with behavior and learning challenges.  


Each session builds on the previous; participants may join one or all of the sessions.  Each session held 7 - 9 pm EST.  Online.  Participants are awarded two contact hours with choice of adding 0.2 Continuing Education Units.  $20.

Session One:  Wednesday, September 12, 2018. 

Understanding Challenges in Behavior and Learning. 


Participants will discuss trends and assumptions in the field of special education with a focus on current research that guides our daily work with our variety of learners. This overview will focus on understanding the communication of behavior, exploring a model for preventing or minimizing challenging behaviors and our role in supporting positive behavior and learning, and the value of creating an inclusive classroom for all students.


Session Two: Wednesday, October 17, 2018.  

Preparing a Comprehensive Classroom Environment to Support Students with Challenges.

In this session, we’ll discuss the impact of the physical, emotional, and social environment in changing challenges into positives. We’ll look at a variety of learning supports for all students and how to individualize accommodations specific to the needs of students with challenges.


Session Three: Wednesday, November 14, 2018.

Creating an Individualized Positive Behavior Support Plan

This session will focus on how we can incorporate individual plans that support a student with challenges using best Montessori practices in a way that is doable, manageable, and workable for every student in our classroom.

Sessions are Wednesday evenings from 7-9pm eastern. Space is limited to a maximum of 10 people to facilitate conversation and sharing. Registration includes all three sessions.




About the facilitator:  Christine Lowry, M.Ed., has a Master’s in special education and a Montessori educator’s credential. She has founded two schools with the mission of serving diverse learners and has worked with students from toddler age through adolescents. With her 25 years’ experience working with students with challenges in Montessori settings, she has a wealth of knowledge and practical guidance to share.

Christine has presented at several local, state, and national conferences. She is a Montessori teacher trainer and consults with schools to develop systems of support and provides coaching in the development and implementation of individualized behavior support plans.
