Montessori Language and Literacy: A Sequence for ALL Students
Wednesday evenings 7:00-8:30 pm EST

February 27, March 6, March 13, (and March 20 makeup session for Part 1)
$65 for entire series or $25 per session

Facilitated by Christine Lowry, M.Ed.   A Structured Literacy program  (recommended by the International Dyslexia Association) that benefits EC beginners to struggling EL students. Using the Montessori scope and sequence and materials, we'll work through the components of teaching to read with techniques and tools to use in your classroom.  


Session One Objectives:

  • An overview of Structured Literacy
  • The Scope of Language Instruction- the components leading to proficiency in reading
  • Shared experiences.


Session Two Objectives:

  • Lessons, presentations, and ideas related to each foundational component leading to independent reading.
  • Observation to guide planning and individual instruction for each foundational component.
  • Shared experiences.


Session Three Objectives:

  • Lessons, presentations and ideas related to reading for meaning.
  • Shared experiences.


This course will focus on young children, as well as those who struggle, to master the skills of literacy and language. Each 90- minute session will include time for questions, shared experiences from participants classrooms. Participants can earn 4.5 clock hours of credit.

About your facilitator:  Christine Lowry, M.Ed. Special Education, is a Montessori educator, credentialed at the early childhood level. She has over 25 years of experience in Montessori charter, and private schools working with students with diverse needs in behavior and learning. She is the founder of Montessori-Now, and currently consults and coaches for districts, and schools and provides professional development at local, state, and national Montessori conferences and in on-line formats.




Montessori Language and Literacy in the Elementary Levels.

February 26, March 5, March 12 (and March 19 makeup session for Part 1)

                                                     $65 for entire series or $25 per session

In this course, you will explore the Scope and Sequence of the Elementary Language and Literacy curriculum and materials with a focus on the elementary students’ path to mastery of the skills of literacy and language.   

Session One Objectives:

  • A review of the sequence, curriculum, and materials for teaching the foundational components leading to independent reading.
  • The importance of observation in planning and teaching individual students.


Session Two Objectives:  

  • The Nomenclature materials, Word Study, and Grammar materials leading to comprehension.  
  • Lessons, presentations, and materials leading to comprehension of fiction and non-fiction reading materials.  
  • Lessons, presentations, and materials for interpretive reading and comprehension.


Session Three Objectives:

  • Lessons, presentations, and materials of Sentence Analysis
  • Composition- creative writing, and creating non-fiction reports, writing styles

About your facilitator:  Maria Burke, M.Ed. Curriculum Education, is a Montessori educator, credentialed in early childhood through Elementary, with over 18 years of teaching experience in public charter, private, and homeschool settings. She owns Lighthouse Learning LLC, creating uniquely crafted educational materials for classrooms and home environments. She is also a consultant to schools and families, providing a variety of services.
